On February 28, Mike Huber completed his term as a panel attorney on the USDC Southern District of Illinois Pro Bono Attorney panel.

On April 26, Cray Huber co-sponsored the IADC Midwest Regional Meeting at the LondonHouse in Chicago.  The meeting served as a professional networking event for IADC Members, their guests and attendees of the Corporate Counsel College.

On February 18-19, Anthony M. Sam was a presiding trial judge at the American Mock Trial Association’s Joliet Regional Tournament held at the Will County Courthouse. This year’s competition featured 24 teams from colleges in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.  Seven teams from the Joliet Regional advanced to compete in the Opening Round Championship Series Tournament at the Kane County Courthouse on March 24-26, 2017 in Geneva, Illinois.  The American Mock Trial Association is an organization that promotes intercollegiate mock trial among over 350 universities and colleges.

Lindsey v. Butterfield Health Care II, Inc., et al.

An Illinois appellate court recently upheld a lower court’s decision ordering a nursing home to produce a report and witness statements concerning a resident’s fall.  The court’s decision in Lindsey v. Butterfield Health Care II, Inc., et al. is the first by an Illinois appellate court interpreting the Long-Term Care Quality Assurance Act, 745 ILCS 55/1, et seq. (“Quality Assurance Act”).

Anthony Sam was a presenter for the St. John Baptist de La Salle Scholarship Program on January 29 at Lewis University. The presentation was entitled “Flying Beyond Lewis University, Alumni Perspective.”  Each year, Lewis University awards at least one St. John Baptist de La Salle Scholarship, a full-tuition award, to an incoming freshman student who demonstrates excellence in the areas of academics, leadership, and community involvement. All students are selected based on their high school grade point average, ACT/SAT score, and a personal interview.

On January 25, Anthony Sam provided a lecture on Closing Arguments to law students in a Trial Advocacy Course at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. The presentation focused on effectively arguing inferences from physical and testimonial evidence and how to use themes to persuade jurors.

On January 20, 2017 Anthony Sam was a guest judge for the Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Competition Team from The John Marshall Law School. The National Trial Competition was established in 1975 to encourage and strengthen students’ advocacy skills through quality competition and valuable interaction with members of the bench and bar.

Daniel Cray authored a sub-chapter entitled, “Motion for Change of Venue” within the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Defense Counsel Training Manual, Third Edition 2016.
